Variable (Predicate Logic)

A variable is a term which does not refer to a fixed individual but is free to change what it refers to over the whole range of available individuals.

Example use of variables:

• $Person(x)$: $x$ is a person.
• $Student(paul,x)$: $Paul$ is a student at $x$.
